Turkey Day
Ok, I
know it's a week late. I just can't seem to move on until I say something about Thanksgiving. We had a great weekend. Eric's brother's family, Scott & Cami, and his sister's family, Matt & Traci, came down for the occasion. Between the 3 of us we have 15 children, 5 each. One niece didn't make it down but the rest did. Our children got along FABULOUS, they just played and played and got extremly dirty. Even our teenagers behaved. The only way to cook a turkey is to pitt it and cook it in the ground. It makes it moist and so so good. When we moved into our house a couple of years ago Eric made a little pit under the trampoline, it holds two turkeys. It is covered and buried year round. He unburied it a couple of days before T
hanksgiving and bought all the wood he needed. It was like Christmas for him. He was ready to get his little bonfire going. When you cook your turkey this way you start the fire the afternoon before Thanksgiving to burn it down into coals to cook the turkey all night. Little did we know that it was going to rain ALL that day. (It never rains here. When we do get rain its a sprinkle and maybe a down pour for 10 minutes.) We were definitely nervous. He still managed to get the fire going and keep it burning throughout the rain. He even got the turkeys in minutes before another down pour came. All that was left was to wait and see if they rain
would ruin our dinner. He pulled them out Thanksgiving morning and they were steaming hot. We defeated the rain and the turkeys were fully cooked. They smelt gooood and tasted even better. Here's a couple of pictures with Eric pulling them out. It was a very proud moment in his life

That's great that he could defeat the rain...it's not like the rain gives us much practice on that kind of stuff.
Sounds like you all had a great turkey, and a great time. I seem to be even later than you are posting about Thanksgiving. I want to, I just haven't done it yet.
Eric is like the Clark Griswold of Thanksgiving - I had no idea he went to such great lengths for turkey dinner! Seriously it all looks awesome though & I'm glad you guys had such a great day!!
Sounds awesome! How the fetch do you pull a in-group trampoline out?
In ground not group- man I just cant type for the life of me.
I agree with Katrina! Move over Clark! Hey, how does the drainage work for your trampoline pit? We want to bury our tramp, but worry about the 3 times a year it POURS down on us, because our backyard becomes a swamp? E,ail and let me know. By the way! Yes it IS your turn to gloat, and I would love to be your age now! I'm 38! AAAaaahhhhh! but i feel 30 if that makes a difference?
Thanks for the invite! It was really good to see all of you for Christmas! That pit is soooo cool! I am seriously tempted to start digging a hole in the back yard tomorrow! Glade did pit turkeys one year and they were soo yummy!
